About the Campaign

UT Dallas’ first 50 years have seen a small graduate school transform into one of the leading public research institutions in Texas.

Our students and faculty have quickly become an invaluable resource to the North Texas region and have aspirations to make an impact on a global scale. As innovators and entrepreneurs, members of the UT Dallas community pursue excellence in all their endeavors. Through groundbreaking research, impactful education and incredible ingenuity, UT Dallas has emerged as a leader among public institutions.

The New Dimensions campaign aims to build upon a half-century of momentum, propelling UT Dallas’ growth and success through the next 50 years and beyond. Each gift toward our $750 million goal will directly support the needs of exceptional students, facilitate the enterprising work of our faculty and realize the possibilities that exist when world-class researchers and visionary artists share a home.

A successful campaign will shape UT Dallas into a world-renowned destination for top students, transformative research and unique cultural experiences. Help UT Dallas create new dimensions of impact around the globe by supporting our efforts.

Attract the Best and Brightest Students

UT Dallas inspires a culture of academic excellence in which well-rounded students prepare for lives of contribution, leadership and fulfillment. On the strength of affordable and accessible academic programs, the University has become a leading destination for some of the most renowned recruits in the country.

Scholarships build great universities. Over its first 50 years, the growth of UT Dallas’ student body was directly tied to investments in competitive, merit-based scholarships. Initiatives like the Eugene McDermott Scholars Program, National Merit Scholars Program and Academic Excellence Scholarships built UT Dallas’ national reputation for providing one of the best-value educations in the state of Texas, where top students can engage in rigorous learning and research free from financial burden.

The New Dimensions campaign seeks to strengthen UT Dallas’ existing financial aid resources with new endowed funds that will help attract and retain the best and brightest students in the world. Expanding the University’s capacity to provide both merit-based and need-based scholarships and fellowships will ensure comprehensive affordability across all of UT Dallas’ schools and centers, open new doors of opportunity for first-generation and underrepresented students and ensure that Dallas continues to train the talent needed for a world-class city to flourish.

When substantial financial assistance is provided to talented students alongside unparalleled academic instruction, graduates enter their professional careers as highly sought-after recruits with low debt and high earning potential. Providing affordable higher education opportunities strengthens intergenerational mobility, promotes equity in educational and professional outcomes, frees motivated individuals to pursue their passions and enables increased economic participation by young professionals.

Enhance Lives Through Transformative Research

Research and education are in UT Dallas’ DNA. Having emerged as a tier one research institution serving the state of Texas, UT Dallas now looks to emphatically define itself as the preeminent innovation and entrepreneurship university in the United States.

To do this, the New Dimensions campaign will raise support for the recruitment and retention of world-class faculty and graduate students, while making essential improvements to the structure of the University’s research programs and training for students at all levels. Attracting the best students to a campus replete with state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, situated in a world-class city teeming with economic opportunity, UT Dallas can be a driving force that shapes the future of our society.

Inspiring investments in entrepreneurship, graduate students and structured research programs will generate new opportunities for student and faculty success. Endowed professorships and fellowships recruit top intellectual talent to the University, and funding for early-career faculty awards would provide latitude for young scholars to pursue innovative new directions in their fields.

As a public research institution, UT Dallas has a responsibility to participate in the creation of solutions for today’s most pressing issues. Scholars in the UT Dallas community are already making pivotal contributions to problems like chronic pain, sustainable energy and managing traumatic disorders in frontline responders. Creating new facilities — like a joint biomedical and science building created in partnership with UT Southwestern — and enhancing our undergraduate research programs would allow UT Dallas’ intellectual talent to make a greater impact across new dimensions of human living.

Transform the Arts on Campus

The arts are different at UT Dallas. Across every school and center, creativity and innovation are at the core of a UT Dallas education. Promoting scientific and imaginative inquiry throughout all disciplines, the University is home to interdisciplinary pursuits at the intersections of traditional art history, technology and new media.

The New Dimensions campaign will transform UT Dallas into a cultural destination for North Texas. Combining traditional art studies with cutting-edge analytical techniques and evolving methods of creation and presentation, UT Dallas will become the ideal place to launch a new era of imaginative wonder in North Texas.

The campaign envisions the creation of the UT Dallas Athenaeum: the first major art museum north of Interstate 635, a complex that would serve as a focal point for one of the fastest-growing population centers in the country. The Athenaeum will house world-renowned art collections — such as the Crow Collection of Asian Art and the Barrett Collection of Swiss Art — and provide much-needed performance space on campus for the University’s many talented student artists.

The Athenaeum would turn the UT Dallas campus into an arts district unlike anything currently available in North Texas. Such a complex will attract internationally-recognized performers, critics and artists to Dallas, and contribute to the University’s ability to compete for top student talent by enhancing campus life and augmenting the University’s traditional focus on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and management with new dimensions of artistic excellence.

Situated within a top-tier research institution, the Athenaeum will serve as a laboratory for faculty and students. Physical exhibitions will allow scholars to not only contemplate great works of art, but perform primary research on the University’s collections across a variety of disciplines, revealing a piece’s historical and cultural importance, its aesthetic and thematic qualities, chemical composition, and conservative and restorative processes.

New endowed scholarship funds for student artists and increased funding for visiting artists and innovative curriculum development will help attract multitalented students who bring diverse talents to the campus community, enriching the marketplace of ideas upon which every great university thrives.

Transforming the arts at UT Dallas will augment the University’s existing strengths in the hard sciences with innovative approaches to art history and the humanities, creating a new and unparalleled environment for research and cultural appreciation.
